Headway Jersey provides essential support, information and services to people in Jersey who are affected by brain injury. As the charity has grown and awareness of the work we do for those who are affected by brain injuries increases, we are contacted regularly for information and advice.
From very small beginnings in 1997 the charity has grown dramatically. The Headway centre is now seeing an increase in the number of referrals. We currently have over 150 survivors of brain injury registered with us as members. Some require occasional support, however up to 70 members access our services on a weekly basis. These services including neuro-physiotherapy, cognitive therapy, advocacy and our Community Centre are an essential lifeline for our members and also provide support and respite to families and carers who need it most.
Acquired brain injury(ABI) covers all situations in which a brain injury has occurred since birth including tumour, stroke, brain haemorrhage and encephalitis as well as traumatic brain injury from road traffic accidents, assaults, falls and accidents at home or at work.
Everyone is at risk regardless of age or social standing. The effects on the individual and their families are dramatic. Most will require some form of assistance. How would you feel if your child, partner or family member couldn’t remember who you are, where they live or even who they are married to?
If you, a member of your family, a friend, neighbour or colleague has sustained a brain injury or you think that they may have sustained a brain injury please call us on 505937 or email headwayinjersey@gmail.com to discuss how we can support them and you and help improve theirs and your lives.
